Nine pairs from different units fired up the dance floor along the beats of Waltz, Tango, and Quick Step. Only six pairs progressed to the semi-final round and the first couple from Matrix, Montellano and Damayan, could finally release their anxieties as they were called as one of the semi-finalists.

“Medyo hindi ko inasahan  dahil sa una pa lang ng sayaw ay sobrang dami naming mali,” Montellano, in her glittering gold and black gown, shared. Her partner also admitted that it was really an inevitable scenario to forget some steps once you’re on the dance floor in front of a jovial crowd and professional dancers-judges. Damayan said, “Kahit four years na naming nagawa ‘yon, siyempre nakabahan pa rin kami.”

Among the six awesome pairs that fascinated everyone with their personal styles, only three couples were selected as finalists: two from the School of Education and one from the School of Engineering. Each duo was given the chance to perform alone on the dance floor along the beat of Waltz.

The finalists shone brighter at their concluding presentation together as they used diverse techniques in company of musical interpretation of Waltz, Tango, and Quick Step to produce their amazing performances. Montellano and Damayan captivated the audience through demonstrating enthralling combinations proper frames.

“Noong nasa third round na kami, hindi ko na masyadong pinansin ang aming kaba at doon ko naisip na kailangan na naming makuha ‘yong gold medal,” Montellano exclaimed when she was asked about their final performance.

“Gusto na naming mag-champion mula pa nung second year.”

“Pero magaling talaga ‘yong Educ,” Damayan uttered.

Damayan’s and Montellano’s hardships, during the four-year course of battling for championship crown, were finally paid off as they clinched gold and outwitted Blue Flames’ bets.

Modern Standard Category, together with the Latin American Category, highlighted the first night of MSC Olympics 2018. These Dance Sports Competitions were conducted at MSC Covered Court on Sept. 17.
